How wide should my stair runner be?
Standard runners will leave the existing hardwood stair treads showing 4–6 inches on either side of the runner, depending on the overall width of the steps. An exact measurement is often determined by the pattern on the carpet as well as the type of binding that is selected. The final measurement is always approved by the homeowner prior to starting the installation.
